Ugbenu Community Elects Engr. Ephraim Madu as President General

 

Former Special Advicer to the Governor of Anambra state on political matters, Hon. Ephraim Madu of Umuaneke village, Ugbenu in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra state has emerged the President General of Ugbenu Town Union.

Hon. Madu pulled a total of 349 votes which represents 60.1 percent of the total votes cast to defeat his co-contestant, Elder Donald Udeh who garnered 232 votes.

The election held at Community Primary school, Obiagu was conducted through option A4 under the supervision of the Ugbenu electoral committee, observers from the Anambra state ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, some presidents-General from Awka North amongst others.

A young entrepreneur and Philanthropist, Mr. Toochukwu Chigboo emerged the vice President General while the former chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra council, Comrade Francis Ekpone was elected Secretary General of Ugbenu Town Union.

The officers were voted into office for a period four years.

In his acceptance speech, Engr. Ephraim Madu appreciated God for his mercies upon Ugbenu community and the electorates for considering him worthy of the position promising not to disappoint them.

“I want to thank the good people of Ugbenu community for their maturity and patience in the face of deliberate provocations all this while.

They maintained absolute decorum before, during and after the elections held on January 4th and 6th respectively. I will not take the confidence reposed in me for granted.

“I want to assure my people of Ugbenu Diaba that I will serve them as their servant-leader to the best of my ability, standing consistently on the path of truth no matter whose ox is gored. I will respect everybody’s views but will not allow anyone to call the short for the entire executive.

I promised, during campaign to give Ugbenu a working constitution, a befitting Civic Centre and to treat everyone with love, respect and also ensure that we give our community everlasting peace.

“The election has come and gone, I therefore appeal to all of you, the good people of Ugbenu, for your support so that together we shall take our dear community to the greater heights.”

One of the stakeholders of Ugbenu community, Chief Romanus Chika otherwise known as Ijele Awka North described Engr. Ephraim Madu's election as a square peg in a square hole, stating that Engr. Madu is eminently qualified to lead Ugbenu community.

"What I want in Ugbenu is peace and development. I am particularly advocating for a new Ugbenu where everyone will be happy and development span across the length and breath of the eight villages that make up the town.

The chairman of the electoral committee, Rev. ( Hon) Felix Eke thanked the Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon

 Collins Nwabunwanne, government observers, the outgoing president General, Hon. Samson Ojo and the entire Ugbenu town for their cooperation which, according to him, made the election successful.

Other officers of Ugbenu town union include: Mr Ndubuisi Ephraim, assistant secretary, Ikeyine Chigozie J, treasurer, Mr Okechi Valentine, financial secretary and Mr Azubuike Elogha, assistant financial secretary.

Others are: Mr. Ezebuilo Aluka, organising secretary, Mr. Obu Sunday Junior, Public Relations Officer,  Uzoefune Johnbosco Bishop, Jideuno Onyedika and Nwokolo Foster were elected as provost 1-3 while Barr. Paulinus Onuigbo is the legal adviser of Ugbenu town union.
