Anambra anti-touting agency brutalise community leaders, destroy property

Anambra State government owned Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) has reportedly clashes with people of Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, destroying the town hall and private vehicles.

A trending video with background voice, showed five vehicles whose screens were destroyed and windows of Obosi townhall said to be destroyed by the SASA which is renowned for using the ancient barter on suspects.

It was learnt that the incident on Tuesday over supposedly misunderstanding between some individuals and SASA operatives.
The Anambra State Government, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor has confirmed the incident noting that investigation was ongoing to ascertain the perpetrators of the heinous crime and prosecute them accordingly.

"We assure the people of Obosi and the general public that we will take decisive action to prevent similar incidents in the future. To enhance professionalism and efficiency, SASA is undergoing reorganisation. This step aims to ensure the squad operates effectively and responsibly.The government urges calm and cooperation from residents as we work to resolve this matter," he stated.

Also, another story from ABS government house Correspondent, Mr Ejike Abana further indicated that the State Government has initiated the peaceful processes of settling the case.

"Following the unfortunate incident in the community by operatives of government delegation, led by Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, were part of a town hall meeting with members of the community. State government made a commitment to cater for the damages incurred as a result of the unfortunate incident.

"While stating that government has launched investigation into the matter, Professor Chukwulobelu expressed regret and condemned the act, while accepting that the operatives exceeded their boundaries, pointed out that the perpetrators will be brought to book and assured that the operations of SASA will be reorganized, to prevent future occurrences," he stated.

Some stakeholders of the community at the fact finding meeting, including the Traditional Ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka and the Chairman , Idemili North LGA, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka, who all condemned the act and urged the State government to fish out the bag eggs SASA and relieve them of their duties or totally ban them from operating in Obosi.
