Health officer urges Anambra residents to maintain regular medical checks

 A registered midwife nurse,Mrs Pauline Okoli,incharge of Manaria Osonwa Primary Health Centres (PHC), Obunagu in Amaikwo, Awka South Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra have called on  residents and people within the environment to make sure they take medical routines exercise regularly to avoid any avoidable illness 

Okoil said that most people do not take care of their health status till they are struck with one health issue which may be prevented if they engage in regular health check.

She said that Manaria Osonwa Primary Health Centres is a fully funded health centres which provides free medical services to the patients that access its services but regrets that people in the area do not  not maximally assess it for a healthy living.

She disclosed that the health  centre was  built by indigenous son of the community, Mr Godwin Osonwa in memory of his late mother Esther and was handed over to state government on April 29 2025.

Okoil said that the .medical services provide at the centre includes primary medical care, elderly care, immunisation from 0 to 59 months  of  birth.

Also  antenatal and delivery  care, postnatal care, laboratory services ,treatment of minor Aliment and  injuries, family planning and referrals all are freely attended to.

She disclosed that people of Obunagu Amaikwo and environment are not maximally the fully equipped health centre and urged them to care for their health now the facility is at their door step at free for all treatments. 

"Most dwellers are business people and hardly come in for medical routines checks or even use it for at will. We have recorded nearly 20 deliveries since  the  centre started and very low patronage despite having reasonable medical services to offer the public.

 " We have telemedicine services, morden medical tools, qualified personnel and operates in a friendly environment that assures healthy living and also makes referral if the need arise. 

 " I expect to have high patronage  this 2026 year considering  the density of people in the area so I call for people to take their health check  more seriously," she said.

She said that the state government have played their own role of providing PHC through the partnership of Manaria Osonwa foundation so is left for the people to take ownership of their health.

Okoli  also appealed to the state government not to relent in their support in ensuring quality health care system to all in spite of their status and begged for attention in  areas of  constant water and electricity supply.

She commended the management of  Manaria Osonwa foundation who despite handing over the centre to government stll support the facility by  providing quality medical services to Amaikwo residents and its  environs.
