Anambra youth mobilise support for dethronement of town union PG, Onuorah

Over 1000 youth of Enugwu-Agidi in Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra State, on Saturday, mobilised other natives across 9 villages to come out and vote against their incumbent President General, Chukwuebuka Onuorah.

The youth, who rallied round the streets with solidarity songs for their candidate, Chief Pius Nwankwo, said they would surely retire Onuorah on December 29, 2025 town union election of the Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU-Nigeria) given to crisis that marred his administration.

The agrarian community has been in turmoil over leadership crisis for the past three years with accusations and counter accusations from all quarters, resulting in alleged impeachment of Onuorah sometimes in November when the later tried to fix date for their election on December 16, 2025 as against December 29th stipulated in the Constitution of EBU-NIGERIA.

Both the impeachment and 16th December proposed date for election were quashed as the State government intervened and implored all the parties to reunite and follow their constitution. 

A visit to the community showed that every member is expectant of new change in leadership even as buses are bringing their youth from all over Nigeria home in their numbers. Most of the returnees are of the opinion that Chief Pius Nwankwo remains the best candidate for the poll and should be supported since both him and the incumbent hail from the same Etiti Village where the position was zoned to.

Nwankwo is a Director of Information and Communication Technology with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while the second term seeker, Mr Chukwuebuka Onuorah is said to be a realtor. 

The duo have others contesting for various positions under their camps and winning executive is expected to lead EBU-NIGERIA for the next three years. 

The top contender, Chief Pius Nwankwo told Bodmascash that he was confident of victory given to the supports of youth, adult and women, even as he expressed readiness to serve them in truth and honesty by running an open door policy.

According to him, unlike the present executive, all members of his incoming executive would be allowed to function just as various committees and structures such as land committee would be empowered to work without fear or favour.

He further maintained that his tenure would neither engage nor support land grabbing and other illegalities so that development and peace would hold sway in Enugwu-Agidi.

Speaking in separate interviews during a house to house and village rallies, some of his supporters, including the Deputy Presidential candidate, Mr Emeka Ementa and a stakeholder, Mr Victor Onwudinjo said they were angered that development was stalled in the community for the past three years, hence their coming out to support Nwankwo.

According to them, Nwankwo has the pedigree, reputation and job that would make him strive for more impactful leadership rather than looking for trouble, which was why they believed that he would never compromise or abuse power when elected.

On his part, the son of the late Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Agidi, Prince Chinedu Ikeanyi, argued that their community has been in bondage for three years and they would love to reclaim it through democratic process which is an election.

"This is a call for a liberation for people of Enugwu-Agidi from bondage of bad leadership. Chief Pius Nwankwo is the most qualified person for that task. He is the most qualified with sound moral background and education, and he has added many values in our community already without been a leader," he added.

Other stakeholders from Enugwu-Agidi, including Chief Jude Chikelu, Mr Richard Nwankwo claimed that the election would enable them to get liberated from high-handedness, authoritarian and other malaise experienced in the outgoing administration.

However, supporters of Onuorah, who were also spotted with their campaigns posters and security, said they were confident of victory because their candidate has performed.

The incumbent, Mr Chukwuebuka Onuorah also said he was confident in winning the election given to his achievements in office and commitment to a free and fair poll.
