My Brewery industry generates more IGR than Soludo's FunCity, Peter Obi
By Tobias Ekirika
Labour Party Presidential Candidate in 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi, on Friday, said that the brewery industry he built as governor in Anambra State is generating more Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) than Governor Chukwuma Soludo's doubled inaugurated FunCity.
Soludo had at first inauguration of the FunCity during President Bola Tinubu's visit claimed that only time a president visited Anambra State was when a federal project and brewery industry was commissioned, which incidentally was when former President Goodluck Jonathan visited the State at time of Obi's administration and commissioned 2nd Niger Bridge and a brewery company at Onistha.
Responding to him at campaign rally held for the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate for Anambra November 8 poll, Peter Obi also urged the voters to elect George Moughalu as he has human feelings and compassion.
He also disclosed his intention to recontest for the office of the President in 2027, saying that he is serious about it because none of the people expressing intentions to contest have better credential than him.
Mr Obi while speaking in Onitsha during the LP's Campaign flag-off, also clarified on the reports alleging that he had dumped LP for African Democratic Congress, ADC, saying that the coalition is restricted to only in 2027 general elections.
"Let me state categorically, I and all the members both at the state and national levels are part of the coalition that have adopted ADC for 2027 election.
"But today, we are LP members. That is why we are here for this symbolic flag off the campaign for LP flagbearer, Dr George Moughalu.
"We urge you to go to your constituencies and convince people. You live in Anambra so I don't need to tell you what is happening here. You can access by yourselves.
"Governance for me is about compassion and empathy, caring for the lowly, petty traders. Is it not these same poor masses you collect tax from. I have governed Anambra state and I don't boast of things I didn't do. I ensured quality education and healthcare. They are all verifiable.
"You might have heard that the only thing I did was building brewery. But the same brewery didn't only give employment to thousands of people but was the highest tax payer and IGR industry in the state. You can compare that with the fun city you have today and tell me which one is more profitable?"
Describing the Deputy Governorship candidate, Ifeoma Okaro as organized, Obi disclosed that they chose female deputy governor because they want to care for families. She is not only popular, but organized.
"Let me remind you that I am contesting President in 2027 and I am serious about it. Everyone has right to contest, but none of them is better than me. I have the backing of the senators, representatives and others.
LP flagbearer, Dr Moghalu, pledged to serve with the fear of God, assuring he would not disappoint the trust reposed in him.
"If we begin to enumerate all we are going to do, we will sleep here. But my pledge to you today is that my deputy and I will serve the good people of Anambra with the fear of God.
"All will be happy, children will go to school, roads will be built, agriculture will blossom. We won't disappoint or put you to shame.
"People will pay tax, but not with pestle. We won't collect taxes with pestle (Akaodo). All in our manifesto will be implemented to the latter. None will be left out.
"Remember, the battle before us is not the type fought carrying snuff in hands. We must go back to our various wards and polling units to convince the people that Anambra will be better under LP," he restated.
Also speaking, Senators representing Anambra Central, Victor Umeh and his Anambra North counterpart, Tony Nwonye promised to support Moghalu to ensure victory at the poll.
