Insecurity bane of socioeconomic development in Anambra, YPP

The Young Progressive Party (YPP) Deputy governorship candidate for Anambra State 2025 poll, Hon. Uzuegbunem Okagbue has ruled out possibilities of developing the State without addressing the insecurity wrecking havoc across nooks and crannies.

Okagbue, who stated this during an interactive session with the State Working Committee (SWC) and stakeholders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra Council, stressed that Anambra State is blessed with both human and natural resources but to harness them need maximum security.

According to him, this could be why there is decline in infrastructural development such as self sponsored road and community development projects, real estate business, buying and building were currently on decline in the State.

He also observed that social life, including events and celebrations like marriage, chieftaincy coronation, burials and others no longer hold as in the past, especially at the hinterlands because notable personalities were scared of being abducted or killed.

Anambra State has being under severe attacks by unidentified gunmen, who have killed, maimed, abducted and destroyed properties of the rich and the poor citizens even in the so-called State capital, Awka.

This according to Uzu, has become a fundamental challenge to the State, unfortunately, the present administration of governor Chukwuma Soludo appeared not to be addressing them.

He, therefore, called on Anambra populace to elect the governorship candidate of YPP, Sir Paul Chukwuma whom he is deputising as they have the capacity and capabilities to address insecurity, create jobs, build industries and ensure 24 hours economy.

"This administration is not getting everything right. If you don't address insecurity, this State will develop. It is the fundamental challenge confronting Anambra State. This is one of the problems you face when you entrust governance to the hands of those who neither grew up in nor own investments in Anambra. Sir Paul Chukwuma grew up and own investments in Anambra State. I equally grew up and live in Anambra State with several investments," he noted.

Earlier speaking, the State Chairman, NUJ, Anambra Council, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu thanked him for having audience with the journalists, assuring that his message of hope and political salvation would be disseminated to the world.
