Anambra: Ozigbo kicks, as court dismisses suit against APC Guber candidate, Ukachukwu

A Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State has dismissed a case brought against the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu over his nomination for the 2025 November 8 poll.

Mr Valentine Ozigbo, one of the aspirants for Anambra APC gubernatorial primary, had in the suit joined APC and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arguing that Ukachukwu should be disqualified for allegedly not been legitimately qualified to contest the party’s primary held on Friday, April 5, 2025.

Delivering the judgement, Justice Evelyn Anyadike, argued that the case lacked merit as Supreme Court had in previous decided cases stressed that the decision of membership of political parties was a prerogative of the particular party.

But responding to the judgement, the plaintiff, Mr Valentine Ozigbo described it as a sad moment, assuring that he would consult with his lawyers on the next steps.

"We are consulting with our lawyers, we will decide on our next step. I did not fight this case for myself. I fought for Ndi Anambra. I fought to protect the soul of our democracy. And that fight is far from over," he noted.

However, the counsel for APC, Messrs Shedrak Ayo, described the judgement as sounds, commendable, and well researched which according to him, depicted a clear interpretation of the law.
