Onunkwo urges journalists to act as watchdog, report factually to promote good governance

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Seahorse Lubricants Limited, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, Tuesday, urged journalists to promote good governance and development by acting as watchdog instead of lapdog.

Onunkwo, who gave the advice during an interaction with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council that were on a facility tour of his company, Seahorse in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area (LGA), argued there was need to always verify and report factually in order to hold the leaders accountable.

"Be the watchdog to promote good governance. If I'm not doing well when I become a senator, tell the world. If I'm doing well, tell the world. If the government is not doing well, tell the world. Help us to hold the government at all levels accountable.

" The world deserves to know the right thing. It takes a courageous journalist to speak the truth. Report factually, do not get involved in any propaganda or pull down syndrome. Do not report to pull anyone down or publish lies to drag traffic to your blog because the damages or impact on the victim will be too much and hard to erase even after you might have pulled it down" he added.

Speaking on cordial relationship existing between him and his company workers, Onunkwo posited that he treats them as co-founders and partners in progress, by giving them a sense of belonging and fatherly and children love.

On his political ambition, the Seahorse boss said it was a divine call aimed at expanding his humanitarian services across the Anambra South Senatorial District and beyond.

This according to him, is why he would offer more youth opportunities to be educated through scholarship, even as he plans liaising and partnering with ministries, departments, agencies, private and international organisations to fight erosion menace and insecurity, construct more roads and improve power supply in the district.

He further maintained that his election would help to create an enabling environment for businesses and industries to thrive by sponsoring bills and good policies to provide industrial clusters station, skills acquisition programmes, among others. 

Meanwhile, speaking after the tour, the State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu said he was impressed over the good working relationship between Onunkwo and his staff and urged him to sustain the tempo as history would remember him for him
