Anambra community in deep crisis, as two brothers emerge as President General

Enugwu-Agidi community in Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra State, has been thrown into crisis following emergence of two kinsmen as President General (PG) to the town Union's, Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union ( EBU-NIGERIA).

The relatives from Etiti Village, Mr Chukwuebuka Onuorah, has been the PG of EBU-NIGERIA since 2022 until he was allegedly suspended by the Central Executive Council (CEC) on November 20, which equally appointed his Vice, Ozo Kenechukwu Darlington Okoye to Act in the Interim.

Onuorah, according to a document signed by 87 supposedly members of CEC, was suspended with immediate effect following 17 count allegations such as announcing removal of traditional prime Minister (Onowu) who is the highest ranking member of the cabinet without due process, molestation of the indigenes with armed thugs, desecration of burial rites activities, interference in women wing meeting, among others.

The suspension letter made available to newsmen was signed by the Secretary of the town union, Israel Anuta, the appointed Interim PG, Kenechukwu Okoye, the Assistant Publicity Secretary, Comrade Echezona Egbeonu, the Legal Adviser, Barrister Justin Obuzo, among other persons.

They cited the letter signed by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy matters, Hon. Tony Collins Nwabunwanne dated May 23, 2025 which reprimanded the PG for suspending their Onowu and entire cabinet members and urged him to immediately withdraw that but he allegedly refused.

The CEC equally appointed Hon. Gozie Aniesona as leader of a-5 person disciplinary committee it setup to investigate the allegations against the PG, even as they mandated the latter to appear before it immediately.

"We request by this notice that you attend the sitting of the 5-person ad-hoc disciplinary at its sitting which will be communicated to you to defend yourself. We also request that you handover any property of the EBU NIGERIA in your possession within 72 hours to Ozo Darlington Kenechukwu Okoye," the letter stated.

However, responding in a phone interview, the embattled PG, Mr Chukwuebuka Onuorah, denied the suspension saga describing it as a cyber cafe letter, which according to him, remains null and void.

But the Interim PG, Kenechukwu Darlington Okoye has assumed office, assuring his community of transparency, loyalty to the Traditional institution, constitution and restoration of peace, law and order.

"My promise to you is that I will serve you well during this period of our interim administration. I pledge to abide by our EBU-NIGERIA constitution and maintain a cordial relationship with all the organs of leadership in our town- EBU, Igwe and Igwe-in-Council, Ulonabo, Council of Elders, EBU Women and youth.

"I want to use this opportunity to appeal for peace, justice and unity as we prepare for our December General conference which will take place on 29th December, 2025. I am calling on everyone who loves Enugwu-Agidi to work with my administration to bring lasting peace and unity to our beloved town," he stated.
