Over 1000 Anambra Students hold solidarity walk in support of Agunaechemba

About one thousand students across different tertiary institutions in Anambra State have staged a peaceful walk in support of continuation of Agunaechemba and Udo Ga-Achi security operatives despite the alleged human rights violations among them.

The students who hail from National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) and National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) were led by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council (JCC), Anambra State axis.

Some of the schools represented were Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu; Federal Polytechnic, Oko; Federal College of Education (Technical) Uminze; Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe; National Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha, and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam.

Speaking during the protest, the leadership of NANS JCC, Comrade Ifeanyichukwu Chukwuemerie implored the governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo not to listen to anyone calling for scrapping of Agunaechemba and operation udo ga-achi.

According to Chukwuemerie, the State security had successfully retired criminals, restored peace and order in Anambra State and should be encouraged to do more to improve the security of lives and property.

He said that with the security personnel in the place students currently sleep well, travel and move out even at nights without fear or attacks from criminals.

The students leaders also took turn to eulogise the State government for improving the qualities of infrastructure development, recreation and others in Anambra and pledged to support Soludo's relection.

Speaking in an interview, a Special Assistant to governor Soludo on Students Affairs, Comrade Okoye Matthew Okpara, commended the students for showing solidarity to the government which he said has improved their academic environment for effective teaching and learning through infrastructural development and security.

Recieving the protesters, the Chief of Staff to governor Chukwuma Soludo,  Hon. Ernest Ezeajughi thanked them for their solidarity and support to the administration, noting that the government would not stop improving their lives.

"What Mr governor is doing in the area of security is commendable. Please do not listen to politicians who are politicising the insecurities.  We condemn it because we expected all of them to come together and support the governor to improve the security. Kidnapping has reduced and many things have changed. I am charging you not to engage in any criminal act or indiscipline," he added.
