A-23-year old girl, Miss Nmesoma Josephine Nwoye and 24-year-old boyfriend, Master Chibuike Ogbu, have been arrested for allegedly masterminding own abduction and demanding a sum of N15,000,000 ransom from parents.

The suspects, according to a statement from the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, after negotiation with Nmesoma's parents, received a sum of ₦3,000,000 transferred into the victim’s account.

But they were later arrested by the Police Operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu over a staged kidnap incident.

"Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu has expressed deep concern over the rising cases of moral decadence in the society. He described the incident as a reflection of the rising moral decay in the society, where young people are increasingly resorting to criminality for selfish gains.

"He urged parents, guardians, and religious leaders to intensify efforts in inculcating discipline, integrity, and sound values in their children and wards. The CP also warned youths against engaging in self-destructive ventures, stressing that the long arm of the law will always catch up with criminals, no matter how cleverly disguised their schemes may be," Ikenga added.
