This is my community by Maxwell Mbah
“Community life is the request of nature.
Its perfection lies in mutual benefits,”
says Mr. Termite.
Without
men sitting down, brainstorming and experimenting with available material and
human resources, the world would be making arithmetical rather than geometrical
progression. Of particular importance is the progress to overcome hunger and
ensure food security. The world’s human population, estimated between 6 to 6.5
billion appears to have overwhelmed the world’s food-production capacity. The
world is fighting more wars than it is tilling the earth to produce more food.
It is bad business that farmers are not allowed to get to their farms because
of kidnapping, organ harvesting armed conflict, and a climate of fear created
by robbery gangs patrolling the forests highways and city outskirts.
The Communitariat is getting to know
more about the rural communities to get first hand information on what other challenges
there are and how they can be tackled. Essentially, what challenges are your
rural communities facing? The earth roads are not accessible, perhaps? Your
people are drinking from disease-infested water ponds or harvesting rain water
from trees and roof tops, for domestic uses? Women are often way-laid on their
way to farms and raped without anybody raising eyebrows?
Electricity supply is made once in a blue moon? No access roads? The ones under construction
have been abandoned because of insecurity? Women and children are being
maltreated, strangled and thrown into pit-toilets? People erect mansions in the
middle of the jungle and do their organ harvesting?
We are also aware of some civilized communities in all the corners of the
earth. They have churches and markets, schools, town halls and clinics, dispensaries
and hospitals. How remote are they from the near-by tarred roads, urban
centres, markets etc? What is the nature of the rural economy? Farming?
Fishing? Is there any police post? In what local govt? What are the names of
your traditional ruler? His phone
numbers, town? local government? What are the names of your festivals? When do
they hold? What time of the year? How far is your town from Onitsha, Enugu,
Port Harcourt, Aba, Kaduna, Jos, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Lagos, Abuja? Please
arrange with us in advance. Give us the information and watch out for The Communitariat on Facebook,
