Gunmen, on Thursday, killed two persons at a boundary between Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area (LGA) and Nanka in Orumba North LGA, Anambra State.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident which occured around 10.45am had villagers scampering for safety as attackers operated without facing any opposition after which they fled the scene on a motorcycle.
The victims whose identities were unknown as at press time, were gunned down at different time. One was killed in a red saloon car, while the second victim was shot dead while fleeing the scene.
Speaking over the attack, a native of Nanka, Mr John Ogbuka wondered why Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s security outfit, Agunechemba and Operation Udo-Ga Achi positioned everywhere could not engage with the hoodlums.
However, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, could not confirm or dispute the incident as phone calls put across to him were unanswered.
But a senior police officer, who confirmed the incident under the condition of anonymity, claimed that the Commissioner of Police, Dr Ikioye Orutugu has already deployed men to pursue the perpetrators.
“At this moment, we do not know the full details of the incident, but the command will release a statement. Everything is under control, and we are actively pursuing the assailants," the source added.
